Nestled away in the heart of the Somerset countryside lies an absolute gem of a fishery, quite unique and different to anywhere else we know. It receives very little angling pressure but has an incredible stock of pristine carp up to 51lb 2oz (to date) of very special bloodlines. All the fish are immaculate and have grown on site from eggs, thus making it a very special and sought-after venue indeed. These are ‘home grown’ carp in the true sense of the word with a pedigree second to none. A venue whereby every single capture is completely off the charts when it comes to credibility.

The banks see very little angling pressure, but we refuse to increase this, after all, it’s one of the main reasons why the residents have grown so big and are continuing to pile on the weight. But size isn’t everything here at the Sanctuary, the fish are some of the finest you will ever see, and furthermore, the peace and tranquillity, coupled with an abundance of nature, make it the most relaxing and serene setting you’re ever likely to encounter.

For most of the time, it’s as much about the special ‘buzz’ you get here at the Sanctuary whilst soaking up the unique atmosphere, knowing you’re never far away from one of the lake’s most prized possessions. Then, out of nowhere, usually when you’re just about to take a sip of your tea, a single ‘bleep’ makes you jump with anticipation, splashing hot drink everywhere! One of the Sanctuary’s most elusive residents has just left you its calling card as it brushes past your line and leaves you a quivering wreck! You know you’re not far away, but will the thrill of the chase develop into something more significant, or just leave you shaking? If you can relate to that, congratulations, you get it, and the Sanctuary is right up your street.

Operation Unknown

In January 2026, in order to help reduce the biomass, we decided to undertake the task of completely draining down the lake for the first time since it was excavated in 2018. We decided to call it ‘Operation Unknown’, mainly due to the fact that some of the fish hadn’t been seen since they were introduced several years earlier. Please click on the video link below to see a short film of the operation.
